Chevrolet Corvette C8: the voice of the engine in acceleration [VIDEO SPY]

The new Chevrolet Corvette C8 could be unveiled soon: in the meantime the road tests of the future American sports car will be intensified. For the first time in the history a Corvette will be distinguished by the presence of the propeller mounted in a central position instead of anterior.

The new Chevrolet Corvette C8 should be unveiled by the end of 2018 or at most within the first few months of 2019. The next generation of the American sport par excellence is still engaged in the long and challenging phase of testing that is seeing it as a protagonist already by some months. In fact, the American brand is investing a lot of energy to test and develop in the best way the future C8, a supercar that surely will mark a great turning point in its history thanks to an innovative technical layout compared to tradition.

The first central-engine Corvette ... or almost!

In fact, the new C8 will be the first Corvette to enjoy the technical scheme that provides for the adoption of the central engine rather than mounted in anterior position as occurred for all seven previous generations. All but one: remember, in fact, that already in 1964 Chevrolet gave birth to the XP-189, concept car equipped with a power unit mounted in a central position behind the cockpit. It was an experiment conducted by Zora Arkus-Duntov who among other things was also the first chief engineer of the first Corvette project. The idea of challenging the direct European competitors at the time through a Corvette equipped with a new technical scheme, however, had no follow-up and the XP-189 remained a mere prototype.

To date, the idea of fighting "on equal terms" with European sports has rekindled the fuse of Chevrolet technicians who, as said at the beginning, are investing a lot of time and resources in testing the new C8: the movie you can see in the opening published by Street Production 303 shows some examples of the future Corvette C8 engaged in the classic test tests on normal roads open to the public. Specifically, it is curious to note that in the video in question several times the forklifts of the American supercar were immortalized during acceleration tests.

Engine mix for the new Corvette C8

On this occasion it is also possible to hear the "voice" of the propeller of the future C8, an engine that is still surrounded by doubts. In fact, according to the latest rumors circulating on the subject, it seems that Chevrolet has thought of a mix of engines for its new born in such a way as to offer different types of engines according to the needs of future customers.

In this case, it seems that the standard variant of the new C8 can be distinguished by the use of a V7 6.2 507 hp, updated version of the engine already present in the front bonnet of the current C7. Going up a grade, there would then be the possibility of having a V8 5.5 "flat plane crank" aspirated 608 hp and twin turbo 811 hp. Lastly, the new Corvette C8 could marry hybrid technology in such a way as to combine the aforementioned 811 hp twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor of around 200 hp in order to achieve a total system power close to 1,000 hp.
