2020 Mid Engine Corvette C8 Revealed - Everything you should know (VIDEO)









After years of waiting, including spy photos, rumors and teasers, the Chevrolet removed the veils from the first Corvette with a central engine, the C8. The new architecture has led the American sports car to clearly break away from the past, both in terms of the proportions of the bodywork, and for the style, totally revised to bring the American supercar into a new era.

For the moment the Corvette has formalized data and information on what should be the entry-level variant of the sports car, the Stingray which, with its 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine, will be positioned at the base of the offer with prices that, in the United States, should start below $ 60,000 (€ 53,309).



Behind the passenger compartment there is a 6.2 liter LT2 V8 derived from the previous LT1. Mounted longitudinally and combined with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with rear-wheel drive, the only naturally aspirated eight-cylinder in this category reaches 490 hp at 6,450 rpm and 470 Nm at 5,150 rpm, but by choosing the Z51 package Performance, the power rises to 495 hp thanks to the adoption of a more sporty exhaust and other technical details. With this data the Corvette Stingray C8 manages to shoot from 0 to 100 km / h in less than three seconds, given that it delivers the fastest Corvette road title ever.








The decision to disconnect with the past and produce a mid-engined sports car is due to several factors, such as improving weight distribution. In addition to this, the repositioning of the eight-cylinder allowed the designers to create a sports car with a very advanced driving position, thus creating a passenger compartment inspired by racing cars. Last but not least, the new configuration made it possible to obtain a double boot: overall the Corvette has a load capacity of 357 travel en plein air.



The design, inspired by the F22 and F35 military planes, integrates references to the past and totally new details, such as the new air intakes integrated in the sides or the door and bonnet opening systems, completely hidden. The engine compartment is also visible when the bonnet is closed thanks to seven openings integrated in the rear bonnet, while other details, such as the four exhausts and the new LED headlights, evolve the stylistic features of the previous generation of the American sports car. As is traditional, even on the C8 the roof is removable: in a few moments the Stingray can thus switch from coupé to spyder.



The generational change has brought a breath of fresh air into the cockpit of the Corvette. Totally redesigned, the dashboard integrates a 12 "digital instrument panel and an infotainment connected with updates where-the-air, Nfc and wireless charging for smartphones. The Performance Data Recorder, the electric adjustment of the seats are also present as standard. heatable and a 10-speaker Bose sound system that, on request, can be replaced by a 14-speaker Bose Performance system.

In addition to the aforementioned Z51 Performance package, which includes additional air intakes, increased brakes, specific final ratio and a sports exhaust system, the Performance Traction Management system and the adaptive Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 system are also available on the Corvette C8. four different modes of operation.



The Corvette Stingray is available in twelve different body colors: Torch Red, Arctic White, Black, Blade Silver Metallic, Shadow Gray, Ceramic Matrix Gray, Long Beach Red, Elkhart Lake Blue and Sebring Orange, to which new shades are added Rapid Blue, Zeus Bronze and Accelerate Yellow. For the interiors, six different chromatic environments are available, Jet Black, Sky Cool Gray, Adrenaline Red, Natural / Natural Dipped, Two-Tone Blue and Morello Red, which can be combined with as many shades for seat belts: Black, Blue, Natural, Torch Red, Yellow and Orange. If this were not enough, customers will be able to request two contrasting stitching (yellow or red) to replace the standard Sky Cool Gray seams and three different types of seats, the GT1, GT2 and Competition Sport.
